For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
When I was 5 years old, I was living in upstate New York, when I attended a fall festival at a church. I won at a bingo game. Bingo is still one of my favorite games to play. I could pick any prize on a huge wall of toys. There were dolls, trinkets, and games to choose from. Instead of picking one of the many toys, I chose a large family Bible with the gold trimmed pages and beautiful colored pictures of Jesus talking to children. I still have this Bible, 34 years later. It is one of my prized possessions.
I have read through the Bible several times in my life. There have been times when I felt like I knew it all. I quickly learned that there was so much more to be gained from reading it again and again.
My hope for you, whoever you are, is that you will open your Bible and learn something new today. What is God trying to tell you? What encouragement or direction do you need? Each time I revisit a passage of scripture or study a book of the Bible, I am amazed at how I learn something new, whether it is about God or myself.
I am thankful that at the age of 5, I chose the Bible as a prize and now at age 39, it is still a great blessing in my life. It guides me and helps me grow in my faith. I pray it does the same for you.
Lord, Your Word is truly a light for our feet, helping us to know where to go. Help us use the tool you have given us to grow in understanding and love as we learn more about you. Amen.
