A Proverb a day in the month of May

It's May! And that means that we will be going through the entire book of Proverbs. There are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs and 31 days in May. We encourage you to read the proverb of the day each day. Example: May 1st is Proverbs 1, May 15th is Proverbs 15. You get it, right?

Proverbs 1 sheds light on what the book is all about and sets the stage of how we will be journeying through this book of the Bible.

The Purpose of Proverbs

These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.
Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline,
to help them understand the insights of the wise.
Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives,
to help them do what is right, just, and fair.
These proverbs will give insight to the simple,
knowledge and discernment to the young.
Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.
Let those with understanding receive guidance
by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables,
the words of the wise and their riddles.
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Who doesn't want wisdom? I mean I know that I need more of it. I want to be successful! I long to be more understand and disciplined in my life. And I want to do what is right, just and fair.

The Proverbs push us in the right directions, towards God and right relationships.

Questions:
  1. Do you have a friend that you could encourage to read through Proverbs with you? And then y'all could discuss what you are learning?
  2. What adults do you have in your life that could help you in understanding what you are reading?
  3. What is something that stood out to you as your read Proverbs 1?

Lord, as we journey through the Book of Proverbs, help us to humble ourselves and gain wisdom while seeking to know ourselves, you and others better. If there is something we do not understand, help us to ask you for guidance. We don't want to be foolish, we want to grow in wisdom and in character. Thank you Lord for your Holy Word that guides us and raws us closer to you. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.

Real World, Real Faith Series - Question #1

Question Number One "IS GOD REAL OR WAS HE MADE UP IN ORDER TO HIDE US FROM THE TRUTH?" This is a great question. I had to think and pray on my response for a few days.  Quick answer: I think He is real. I personally know that deep within my heart.  Middle length answer: I think He is real...personal experience...but I can totally see that how God is incorrectly portrayed can cause people to lack trust in Him, in faith and in Christianity as a whole. You are not alone in this question.  Long answer: I didn't grow up in a Christian home. I had the Bible through by the time I was 12ish. I knew the dos and don'ts of being a Christian...but it wasn't until I was 16- that all of that knowledge became real. Stories and rules do not make a Christian. It is a personal and real relationship with Christ. At 16, Christ became real to me. He was no longer a warm and fuzzy story but a real presence in my life. So...I guess what I am trying to say is that I hope and pray that ...

Thankful Thursday  What are you thankful for today? How have you seen the love and wonderful deeds of our Lord?  Psalm 107:21-22 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love     and his wonderful deeds for mankind. Let them sacrifice thank offerings     and tell of his works with songs of joy.
