K is for KINDNESS!
Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things.
As you can see from these verses God calls us to be kind. He even says that when you take in the Holy Spirit, it will produce kindness in you.
Growing up I always heard the phrase “Kill ‘em with kindness” or “You attract more bees with honey than vinegar”. The honey being kindness and the vinegar being the opposite. I don’t think people really realize how much more you can accomplish by simply being kind. Kindness does not mean be pushed around or sweep problems under the rug. It simply means approach everything with the love and joy of Christ. Think of a situation where you or someone you know was not very kind. Would there have been a better outcome if they had chosen to be kind? The situation may have been tough, but I can guarantee you 100% that choosing kindness would have made the end result much better.
I struggle most with being kind to the person that is closest to me, my husband. I love him so much, but he can get on my nerves, and the first thing to go is kindness. When I realized how mean I was being to the person who knows me the most, I decided to pray and ask God to show me when I was about to be unkind to him. Maybe you need to use this prayer as well when you are starting to be pushed over the edge.
“Lord please show me when I am about to be unkind to someone. Please quickly give me the sight to see things from their perspective and the kindness to react in a loving and truthful way.”
This prayer is when you are in the moment and you get the nudge from God about being kind. I pray this and take a deep breath before speaking.
“Lord, please help me. I need your patience and understanding.”
