Throw Back Thursday
Think of a time in your life when you felt extra close to God? What do you remember about that time? Is it a location, a church, a group of people, an event in your life? Were you doing any daily disciplines that aided in you feeling close to God? These disciplines may include Bible study, prayer, fasting, worshiping, serving others.
We all go through seasons in our lives where we sometimes feel extra close to God, like He is as close as our next breath. And then there are seasons when we get busy and He feels distant.
In Revelation 2, starting in verse 4...There are some words of wisdom for us today.
4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. Rev 2:4-5 NIV
"Repent and do the things you did at first." What are those things you did when you love for God was great? The world can distract us. Honestly, we distract ourselves from that which is good for us. As you think about your close moments with God and the effort and intentionality you gave your relationship with Him, is there anything you need to be doing differently now to get back to that first love?
The Prayer: Lord Jesus, I do love you and I know that you love me. I am sorry for letting things get in the way our relationship. I want to give you my full heart, please help me to do that and to honor you with my time. In Your Holy name I pray, Amen.
